Stefano Parolai

BIOGRPHY

Stefano Parolai received his bachelor’s degree in Geological Sciences and his Ph.D. in Geophysics from the University of Genoa. Since 2000, he has worked at the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences in which he was director of the “Centre for Early Warning Systems.” His research is mainly in the field of engineering seismology, seismic hazard and risk and earthquake warning systems. He holds the habilitation in “engineering seismology” and the title of apl. Prof. at TU Berlin. In 2018, he received the habilitation as a Professor in Geophysics. In addition, he was l Secretary General of the European Seismological Commission until September 2022. He is the author of more than 190 publications in international scientific journals. From 1/9/2019 to 31/10/2022, he was the Director of the Seismological Research Center of the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics -OGS. As of 1/10/2019, he became a Research Executive of the same institution upon the authorization of the Minister of Education and Scientific Research with a direct call for special merits. Since November 2022, he has been a full professor at the University of Trieste.
